Our Story

Lifetime Basement Finishing was created as an extension of our parent company, Custom Deck Creations, to bring the same commitment to exceptional customer service and craftsmanship to basement remodeling. Custom Deck Creations was founded in 2017 by Phil Black, who, after facing significant challenges while trying to build a deck for his own home, recognized the need for a better contractor experience for Southeast Michigan homeowners. Frustrated by poor communication, inconsistent pricing, and unreliable service from over 20 TrexPro Platinum contractors, Phil turned his frustration into action.

Rather than spending the money on his deck, Phil used those funds to create a company dedicated to providing clear communication, fair pricing, and exceptional quality. The result was Custom Deck Creations, a business that has earned a 5.0-star rating on Google and hundreds of positive reviews thanks to its customer-first approach.

Building on this success, Lifetime Basement Finishing by Custom Deck Creations was born to offer homeowners in Detroit and nearby a high-quality, reliable service for basement remodeling, ensuring that our commitment to excellence continues year-round. "I was born and raised in Michigan. I'm happily married to my wife, Marianne, and we have two incredible boys. I'm a Michigan State University graduate with a degree in Business Management, and my true passion lies in running a business that not only improves our local community but also creates fulfilling career opportunities for residents. Outside of work, I enjoy photography, BBQing for my family, playing racquetball, and crafting the best glazed donut ice cream!"
